August 27, 2005 - Results from "The Palatine"

We capped off our second week of practice with our first running this season of "The Palatine."  Afterwards, we all brought in our many treasures and sold them in the annual CC Auction.  The top item this year was Matt Moss' favorite racing uniform, which Kretschmar bought from $37.00.  I believe that this is the largest bid I have seen since I started here five years ago.  Tim Anderson also bought the largest pair of boxer shorts I have ever seen along with an Afro wig.

Results of "The Palatine" - Laskowske runs #2 frosh time ever

I am busily compiling all of the results.  All of the all-time and career lists have been updated already.  We didn't make of an impact on the career lists since I held back everyone on the grass loops.  The biggest jumps were Tom Laskowske grabbing the #2 freshman time behind Glenn Morris and Kevin O'Brien running the #4 sophomore time ever.  These efforts are even more noteworthy when you see that most of the best times were run in March and April during the track season rather than late August.  All of the All-Time, Career, Senior, Junior, Sophomore, and Freshmen records have been updated.

The results (without phase times) are included in the Workout section.  Compare your performance with that of a year ago to see how much progress you have made.  Some huge improvers:

Palatine 8/28/2004 8/27/2005 Improv.
K. O'Brien 37:23 30:53 -390 sec
Bollman 42:48 37:29 -319 sec
M. Anderson 36:46 32:44 - 242 sec
Soto 33:41 31:26 -135 sec
McCain 34:18 32:35 - 103 sec
Yee 37:07 35:43 - 84 sec
Gonzalez 32:49 31:41 - 68 sec
Holbach 33:12 32:43 - 29 sec
Jr. Palatine 8/28/2004 8/27/2005 Improv.
D. O'Brien 37:42 31:21 - -381 sec
Kulikowski 38:14 32:30 - 344 sec
Smoody 33:33 32:43 - 50 + 1600 m added length
Mourousias 33:38 33:20 - 18 + 1600 m added length
Kretschmar 36:06 37:07 + 61 but 1600 m added length

Banana Split Relays Pictures - Laskowske and Cruz win it all!

Our workout from last Saturday was fun as always.  Coach O'Connell took a number of pictures and Coach Currins posted them out on the girls CC site.  Check out the new photo gallery.  We didn't get pictures of all the winners this year.  Results included:

1st place overall - Diana Cruz and Tom Laskowske
2nd place overall - Carly Bates and Esberaldo Gonzalez
3rd place overall - Michelle Brunk and Sagar Patel
4th place overall - Kaitlin Millin and Steve Finley
Fastest team - Carly Bates and Esberaldo Gonzalez
Most improved - Monica VonBladel and Kevin O'Brien

August 20, 2005 - Early Workout Results

Everyone is doing a great job so far this season.  Now, let's get ready to find out routine as school starts next week.  The 3 x 1600 workout with the girls today went great.  I posted all of the results for both the milers and half-milers.  Check out your progress from last year.  I think that the course was a bit longer than last year so keep that in mind when making comparisons - the course is never exactly the same way twice (and it rained last night).  We'll be running "The Palatine" next Saturday so that should give a clearer measure of our progress as a team.  Enjoy!

Attendance and Joining the Team

With school starting on Tuesday, there should no longer be any excuses for missing practice.  From now on, absences will result in suspension from meets (unless absences involve family affairs).  Schedule those doctor and dentist appointments on Friday afternoon if you can.  Everyone is getting better and we all need to be at practice everyday if this team wants to reach its goals.

We are still accepting new guys, especially freshmen.  We have 14 freshmen signed up, and the team goal for this year is 20.  Keep talking up the team!  We are glad to have anyone who wants to run.

August 9, 2005 - The Season Is Almost Here!

The 2005 Palatine Cross Country season officially starts on August 15.  We will meet in front of the athletic doors at 7:45 am, and practice will start at 8:00 am in the morning.  All people wishing to participate in cross country must fill out three papers by this Thursday, August 11 to be eligible to participate on the first day.  These papers are:

bulletParent permission form - Your parents must sign this form allowing you to participate.
bulletEmergency card - You must include all emergency information on the green card.
bulletPhysical form - You must have proof of a recent physical.

You should turn all of these papers into the nurse at Palatine High School.  Neither the nurse nor Annie Hernandez, our athletic secretary, will be in on Friday, August 12 so it is crucial that all forms are turned in before then.  We cannot allow you to practice with the team if your papers are not turned in.

Camping Trip Pictures

I put all of the pictures of the Devil's Lake Camping pics and the pictures from Camp Sand in one photo gallery.  Check out all of the fun we had this summer!

Other Updates

I just scanned this picture of our state placing 4 x 800 meter relay.  Congrats on the All-State finish boys!
