Recent News and Updates

Wednesday, April 14 - Short Update

"Man, Doyle running 59.3 is like someone coming in my house and eating all of my food." -- Matt Sirant after Tim Doyle, Phil Conley, Umesh Kaushal, and Esberaldo Gonzalez destroyed all of his PR's

Updates on the Barrington Freshman Invite and the Barrington-Conant triangular will be posted when I get a free minute.  I did update the 2004 Performance List so take a lot at our latest PR's!

Friday, April 8 - Tons of miles updates and results

I am sorry for the lack of updates lately.  Sometimes I actually have to stop thinking about track and grade all of those English papers that my students write!  Now that 9-week grades are done and it's time for the outdoor season, updates will be more frequent.  All of the Performance Lists have been updated so check them out.  Palatine will be squaring off against Conant and Barrington on Tuesday for the opportunity to run in the MSL West Division title meet.  It's time to get after it!

Miles Updates - Mileage hasn't been updated on the site for awhile so here is the latest for Week 8 and Week 9.  Check out the latest Mileage Progression as well.

Palatine Defeats. Buffalo Grove 100-50

The Palatine boys defeated Buffalo Grove on Tuesday night in their outdoor opener.  Buffalo Grove came out on top in the distance department, but the Palatine sprinters and field event athletes picked up the slack.  Victor Figueroa and Tony LaCapra had great meets.  Figueroa won the 400 and 200 while LaCapra grabbed second in the 200.  LaCapra also ran on the victorious 4 x 100, 4 x 200, and 4 x 400 relays.  Junior Martin Slowinksi triple jumped 39'7" to win and give the coaches a pleasant surprise.  Junior Geoff Bishop also contributed by placing in the 100 and 200 and tying for 1st in the long jump at 18'1".  Jason Kramer continued his PR season by throwing over 46'0".  Here are the distance results:

4 x 800 meter relay - Palatine finished 1st and 2nd in this event running 8:20 and 8:25 with our A and B teams.  If we add up our best splits, we run around 8:15.  Highlights included twin 2:03's on leadoff for John Lancaster and James Macatangay, a 2:05.1 for sophomore Danny Holbach, and an unchallenged 2:03 anchor for Brian Brodeur.

3200 meter run - Mike Richardson from Buffalo Grove won the race in around 10:20, but Palatine took the next seven spots.  Ryan Zachar placed 2nd in 10:28 while freshman Danny Rakaric came up big with a 10:43.  Robert Conley ran right on his best time in 10:48 and was followed by freshmen Esberaldo Gonzalez (10:53) and Ulises Reynoso (11:04), sophomore Matt Sirant (11:10), and freshman Phil Conley (11:12).

800 meter dash - Most of our best 800 guys ran the 400 meter dash as a workout so David Erstad led the varsity with a PR time of 2:20.  Good job Stad!  Kyle Compton and Tom Barsella also came back and had fast races in their second efforts of the day.

1600 meter run - This was the best distance race of the day.  Bryan McVey and John Lancaster dueled all the way to the finish with McVey winning in the last 10 meters in 4:29.  Lancaster ran a season best 4:30 and was followed by James Macatangay and Matt Moss (4:41 PR). Tom Roth ran a season best 5:02 and Matt Ballenger Pr'd by 15 seconds with his 5:28.

The F/S race was the highlight of the meet with almost every runner putting out an all-time best.     Check out the times since they are too numerous to list!  Come on...Doyle ran 5:18!  You guys are ridiculous.  Way to go F/S.

Doylerson Results - For all of our viewing public waiting for the full results, here they are!  The Doylerson Invite was a fantastic success in its first running.  The Super Troopers took the title behind a stellar 1-2 punch from Robert Conley and Kyle Compton.  Congratulations to all who ran and to the team for making a good idea that much better.  Here are the team pictures:

Super Troopers - 1st place Doylerson Invite

Moss's Melee - 2nd place Doylerson Invite

The Dukes of Hazzard - 3rd place Doylerson Invite

Blue Streak - 4th place Doylerson Invite

Sunday, March 28 - Top Times and Proviso Results

I am swamped right now with 9 week grading so longer updates will have to wait until later.  Here is the short, short version of happenings with the distance crew.

- Glenn Morris placed 3rd at Top Times in the 3200 meter run, breaking Tony Rakaric's indoor F/S school record.  Glenn ran 9:29.69 FAT.  He also placed 7th in the 1600 in a tough time of 4:29.02 FAT.  What a double for a sophomore!

- The 3200 relay team placed 8th at Top Times with a time of 8:21.01.  This is the team's second fastest time of the year.

- The guys ran a ton of PR's at the Proviso Classic.  James Macatangay ran 4:32 while Tim Brodeur ran 4:37.  Both are lifetime PR's in the 1600.  Despite a wardrobe malfunction, Matt Sirant led the F/S 3200 relay to a 4th place finish, and the varsity used PR runs by Ryan Zachar and Brian McLain to place 5th.

- The Super Troopers won the Doylerson!  Robert Conley ran to the individual victory.

You've got to run like an antelope out of control!

Without further ado...here is why "Run Like an Antelope" is a metaphor for the intensity of a close race.  Right-click to download it.  It's a .wav so it is pretty big.

HIGH GEERE STICKER"The song starts as most races do with the chilling portion.  You get out fast and find your flow, but you are just floating along.  You feel free and fast like no challenger can overtake you.  We all know though that the moment of truth is not really far off.  The challenger throws down the gauntlet (right before 3:00 - you'll know what I mean).  The energy escalates.  You step up your pace to meet the surge.  You are pulling away, but can't look back.  The race is on.  The pace gets faster and faster.  Your temples pound.  Your lungs swell and burn.  Your legs start to get heavy as your challenger pulls alongside you.  You aren't sure if you can meet the challenge.  The war is on.  This is a duel to the death.  Who will win?  Who will reach the line first?  Acceleration... acceleration... faster...faster...more effort...the line is approaching.  THE MOMENT OF TRUTH.  Who wants it more?  Finish line."  -- This should be our new motto: "Set the gearshift for the high gear of your soul, you need to run like a Pirate out of control !!!!"
